An evening of fundraising for the District’s nonprofits took shape thanks to the Butterfly Bash.
THE PARTY Talk about a metamorphosis: The Washington National Cathedral was transformed into a multicolored gala when the 16th annual Butterfly Bash landed amid its hallowed surrounds. THE PEOPLE Upward of 700 attendees—all clad in bright hues fitting of the monarchs themselves—filled the venue. Among them were co-chairs Elisabeth Cohen, Donnell Kearney and Scott Provinse, and emcee Eun Yang of NBC4. The latter led the night’s celebrations and helped recognize those who’ve made a difference in the local philanthropic world. Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez was honored for co-founding TheDream.US scholarship program, and his family (wife Edilia and daughters Karina and Erika Sheridan) proudly applauded his efforts. BEST IN SHOW Nearly $120,000 was brought in during the five-minute Bash Cash text pledge, beating the goal by $20,000 and ensuring that Fair Chance will continue to aid local nonprofits, as well as kids, youth and families in the region. -Faye Hadley
