All About That Brain

| May 11, 2016 | Parties

THE PARTY Guests gathered at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium for an elegant evening of fundraising for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The third annual Brain Ball, hosted by the National Capital Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, attracted leaders in business, politics, non-profit and philanthropy. And nothing brings people together quite like a good cause and good food, which included a decadent fare of miniature lobster rolls, crab cakes and filet mignon with a truffle shiraz demi glace catered by Ridgewells.

THE PEOPLE This year’s special guests included National Honoree, Thomas J. DeRosa, CEO & Director of Welltower, Inc. and Regional Honoree, Rushern L. Baker III, County Executive for Prince George’s County in Maryland. The star-studded event also featured Master of Ceremonies Rick “Doc” Walker, a former Washington Redskin and Super Bowl Champion, as well as guest speaker and Miss USA 2015, Olivia Jordan. Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw provided entertainment for the 700 gala-goers.

BEST IN SHOW Purple rain! The already opulent venue was radiating glamour with floor to ceiling drapes and up lighting in a shade of soft purple—the signature color for Alzheimer’s disease awareness.
