THE PARTY The Smithsonian’s Sackler Gallery threw a weekend-long fete to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The festival launched with an in-depth lecture, followed by a formal gala and lavish Southeast-Asia-themed after-party, dubbed Club Caravan. THE PEOPLE The wife of the late Arthur M. Sackler and a mistress of ceremonies of sorts, Dame Jillian Sackler, was joined by Museum Director Julian Raby, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Her Imperial Majesty Farah Pahlavi Empress of Iran and Museum of Modern Art Director Glenn D. Lowry. Event co-chairs Ann Nitze and Susan Pillsbury oversaw the commemoration and fundraising event, which featured a performance by wunderkind Korean violinist Hahn-Bin. BEST IN SHOW Speaking of Generation Next—the Silk Road Society, a young professionals group organized through the Freer and Sackler galleries, hosted an after-party featuring a special viewing of the gallery’s new 3-D digital cave exhibition, Pure Land: Inside the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang.
