The Party
More than 700 of the city’s powerful supporters came together to raise funds for care, support and research in the fight against Alzheimer’s. The emotional evening included moving speeches by those affected by the condition and the presentation of the Vision Award. This year, the award went to Jerry and Paul Klaassen for their work in revitalizing senior care with Sunrise Senior Living.
The People
Former Washington Redskin and ESPN personality Rick “Doc” Walker hosted the festivities, while attendees— including DC magazine’s publisher and Brain Ball board member Peter Abrahams, Brain Ball founding co-chairs Liz and Tom Donohue, U.S. Chamber of Commerce President John McKernan Jr. and Sen. Olympia Snowe— dined on a lavish dinner before retiring to a dessert bar and musical entertainment from Radio King Orchestra.
Best in Show
Liz and Mark Ordan donated a vintage 1966 Ford Mustang! The winner promptly donated the car back to the nonprofit and it was then auctioned off not once, but twice for the deserving cause. The hot rod and the event together raised more than $1 million for Alzheimer’s disease. -Photos by Tony Brown and Jay Snap
