Bidding Adieu

| December 29, 2011 | Parties

Transformer Gallery’s annual auction says hello to new artists and goodbye to their works as they’re quickly sold. THE PARTY Featuring works by both up-and-coming and established artists, a VIP-stacked guest list and delectable offerings from more than 20 DC restaurants, the Transformer auction affirmed the thriving art market in Washington. In the hallowed halls of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, guests bid on artists such as Margaret Adams, Saul Gomez, Maggie Michael and Wilson Butterworth, raising significant funds for the nonprofit’s exhibition series and programs to advance emerging artists. THE PEOPLE Lobbying power-duo Heather and Tony Podesta joined fellow collector-couples Dadi and Farinaz Akhavan, and Shigeko and Timothy Bork at the auction, which boasted a catalog of more than 100 pieces of art. Works ranged from paintings, sculptures, photography, videos and even collages collected from all over the globe. BEST IN SHOW Infamous for its all-out dance parties, the sounds of DJ Yellow Fever proved irresistible as guests let loose post bidding wars, hitting the dance floor. Photography by Darren Santos
