| May 6, 2016 | Parties

THE PARTY The Washington Ballet’s spring gala, in support of the ballet’s education and community engagement programs, took over the Mellon Auditorium to celebrate two rock legends: David Bowie and Freddie Mercury of Queen. The gala was in conjunction with Washington Ballet’s upcoming production Bowie & Queen and honored Septime Webre’s tenure as artistic director for 17 years. Guests were entertained throughout the evening from live performances by Washington Ballet company members and DanceDC students from John Eaton Elementary to curated tunes by DK Alkimist.

THE PEOPLE The who’s who of the DC art scene! Notable guests included Arthur Espinoza, executive director of DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities; Xiomara Reyes and Rinat Imaev of American Ballet Theatre; Julie Kent, honorary chair and future Artistic Director of TWB; and Victor Barbee, future Associate Artistic Director were all in attendance. Councilmember Jack Evans also made an appearance.

BEST IN SHOW Out of this world! Projections of space and shooting stars adorned the ceiling of Mellon Auditorium while guests sipped on featured cocktails such as Septime’s Mojito and a Ziggy Stardust cocktail that TWB collaborated on with Susan Gage Caterers.
