THE PARTY Political big wigs and leaders of the Hispanic community came together at the National Building Museum for the 25th annual NCLR Capital Awards that recognizes elected officials working toward Latino equality. This year’s recipients included Congressman George Miller, Mayor Paul Bridges of Uvalda, Georgia, and the nonprofit Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), all who demonstrated their support through various acts from challenging discrimination laws to championing equal education rights. THE PEOPLE Today Show anchor Natalie Morales emceed the ceremony with an audience of over 750 that included the evening’s honorees, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Congressman John Conyers, Congressman Charles Gonzalez, noted film director Robert Rodriguez and NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguia. BEST IN SHOW Morales took the opportunity to announce that the annual star-studded ALMA Awards celebrating Latino achievement in the arts, will be co-produced by Janet Murguia and Eva Longoria in September, and broadcast on NBC.
