THE PARTY First-time novelist Keli Goff gathered 80 friends over a signature Pamela's Punch at The Park Hyatt. The fashion-forward author, never without stilettos, donned a dress by Issa, of recent Kate Middleton fame. THE PEOPLE Members of the host committee included the author's former employer Rep. Carolyn Maloney and former Rep. Artur Davis. Politicos Jamal Simmons, David Sutphen and Christine Delargy were on hand as well. BEST IN SHOW Goff recalled early days as an aspirant intern, the big break as Maloney's campaign manager, and a game-changing interview with Colin Powell for her first book in 2008. Her timeliest tome yet, The GQ Candidate expands Goff's audience beyond fact-finders. Writing fiction, she says, tapped a new well of experience. "The book asks, 'what should a person be willing to sacrifice to see someone they love live a dream,'" Goff says. The tale tears into a story she feels is untold: a campaign's toll on the lives of those closest to a presidential candidate in an age of media gone mad. Her most exciting moment: landing just under author fave Jennifer Weiner on LA Times' list of summer must-reads. Photography by Joseph Allen/
