THE PARTY East met West during the National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony with artistic performances by both Japanese and American rock stars, including MISIA and Sara Bareilles. THE PEOPLE Mayor Vincent Gray and Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki entertained guests, while Festival Chair Susan Norton toasted President Diana Mayhew, who said the day felt like Christmas, Easter and her birthday all rolled into one. BEST IN SHOW Hideki Togi performed a moving rendition of the Japanese national anthem, joined by the Children’s Chorus of Washington. Photography by Tony Brown
