Honor Roll

| March 14, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY Now in its sixth year, the BET Honors recognizes the contributions of six outstanding African-American leaders in music, literature, entertainment, media, service and education. Hosted at the Warner Theatre and televised nationwide, the celeb-soaked event has quickly become one of the most inspirational specials on BET’s network. This year’s honorees included music executive and entrepreneur Clarence Avant, actress and philanthropist Halle Berry, singer Chaka Khan, pastor T.D. Jakes and former WNBA star Lisa Leslie. THE PEOPLE More than 1,500 guests, including model Tyson Beckford, Attorney General Eric Holder, and BET brass CEO Debra Lee and Stephen G. Hill, gathered for performances from Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, Mint Condition, KEM and Brandy. Wayne Brady surprised honorees with an impromptu serenade. BEST IN SHOW The event raised nearly $60,000 for Life to Masterpieces, Inc., an organization dedicated to empowering young African-American males living in poverty-stricken neighborhoods in the DC area.
