Isabella Goes Greek

| September 30, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY DC’s superhot 14th Street just got a little spicier! Chef Mike Isabella opened the Greek-themed Kapnos, a 6,000-square-foot space accented with rich materials and exceptional lighting. The main attraction, of course, is an authentic menu—inspired by Isabella’s travels to Northern Greece—that will make vegetable- and meat-lovers alike extremely happy. Outstanding dishes made the rounds, and guests toasted the new venture with incredible Greek wines. THE PEOPLE The restaurant, whose name means “smoke” in Greek, opened its doors to more than 100 restaurant and media insiders, including Kevin Sbraga of Top Chef fame and chef Haidar Karoum of Proof and Estadio. BEST IN SHOW Talk about a gourmand’s dream: Isabella and Kapnos business partner/Chef de Cuisine George Pagonis (his brother Nick is also a partner and general manager) worked their carving magic at two massive rotisserie spits in the restaurant’s open kitchen. Libations also created a major stir, as Beverage Director Taha Ismail showed off sweet-but-soothing lemonade cocktails. Photography by Jeff Martin
