THE PARTY Trailblazers and community leaders who gathered at the National Alliance for Hispanic Health’s Vision, Innovation, Dedication and Advocacy awards took in lush autumn floral displays at The Willard in celebration of game-changers in the field. THE PEOPLE Dr. Antonia Novello, the first female U.S. surgeon general, presented Dr. Lauro Cavazos, the first Hispanic to serve in the U.S. cabinet, with one of the evening’s awards. BEST IN SHOW Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, a medical responder at Pearl Harbor, the most senior member of Congress and a VIDA award recipient, cautioned the audience to “never accept discrimination” and thanked the event’s host, the NAHH, for its efforts to bring health care to all.
