The Party
It was a star-studded evening as DC’s powerful politicos and impressive performers descended upon Ford’s Theatre to honor outstanding leaders in education and the arts, and to present the prestigious Lincoln Medals, which are bestowed annually for leadership that reflects the ideals of President Abraham Lincoln.
The People
High-profile performers graced the stage, including the evening’s emcee, actor Scott Bakula; Tony Award-winner Lauren Benanti singing “I Could Have Danced All Night”; Broadway vet Cheyenne Jackson performing “I’m Blue, Skies”; and Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, who gave a moving tribute to several education honorees.
Best In Show
James Earl Jones and Rep. John D. Dingell accepted Lincoln Medals at the ceremony. Postshow, attendees retired to the atrium of the National Portrait Gallery, where they dined, danced and rubbed elbows with guests like Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and National Security Adviser Susan Rice.
