The Party Hilary Rosen and Emily Lenzner of SKDKnickerbocker, and DC magazine, invited an intimate cadre of boldface names to host and toast Kathleen Turner at Blue Duck Tavern’s chef’s table. Kicking off the final month of her run as Molly Ivins in Red Hot Patriot at the Arena Stage, Turner regaled the gathered with stories about the show and her own politics. The People Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson flanked Turner, while U.S. Chief of Protocol Capricia Marshall joined in from across the table. Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to the First Lady Tina Tchen welcomed the crowd with the news that September’s downward shifting unemployment numbers had come out that morning, which brought a cheer from FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel. Turner shared the tale of the first time she met two Texas powerhouses—Molly Ivins and Ann Richards. They were on her condo’s elevator in Manhattan, ascending to Richards’ own apartment in the building. The women took one look at Turner, and Richards said, “You’re coming with us.” Photography by Tony Brown
