Star-Spangled Soiree

| March 26, 2015 | Parties

Blue Star Families, a military family-engagement organization, marked its fifth anniversary with an all-star chef-catered event that honored those who go above and beyond for their country.

It was a red, white and blue affair as families from every military branch, along with celebrity guests and a large congressional delegation, gathered at the United States Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Blue Star Families, a nonprofit that assists in closing the unemployment gap for military spouses.

Decorated veterans and active- duty military, and their proud families, mixed and mingled at the patriotic affair with celebrity guests, including actor and president of the Creative Coalition, Tim Daly; the evening’s emcee, journalist Bob Woodruff; and Olympic athlete Dan Jansen.

The focus was on family, but the fete also served up some fabulous food! Celebrity and military chefs paired up, serving bite-size dishes for guests to nibble on throughout the evening. Chef Robert Wiedmaier and his military counterpart, Mike Leo, served salmon napoleons, while chefs Bryan Voltaggio and Kevin Saiyasak served beef cheeks. To top it off, Dog Tag Bakery, a new bakery in DC that employs veterans, gave take- home apple pies to guests.
