The Eighth Annual Embassy Dinner

| October 4, 2016 | Parties

THE PARTY The Eighth Annual Embassy Dinner presented by the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Events DC was a night to celebrate international business and trade. The venue was brought to life with floral arrangements designed by Tierra Floral. A luxe menu included a fall harvest salad followed by a delicious iron steak. Dessert took the menu to the next level with key lime dessert shots, french macaroons, and chocolate dessert shots.

THE PEOPLE Guests were among 14 Ambassadors and members of Congress as they listened to keynote speaker HUD Secretary Julian Castro. Other speakers included Angela Franco, President and CEO of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Phil Mendelson, Chairman of the Council of District of Columbia. The Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, Boyd K. Rutherford, was also in attendance and spoke at the event.

BEST IN SHOW Ambassador Mari Carmen Aponte was the recipient of the Public Service Award this year. Aponte was recognized for her service to the Latin American Community in addition to being the first Latina to serve as Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Guests were entertained by Jorge Anaya, a singer and guitarist who also beautifully sang the National Anthem before guests enjoyed their meal. Anaya’s powerful vocals set the stage for a remarkable Embassy Dinner!
