THE PARTY Ambassadors, congressman, celebrities and Washington’s boldest-face names in business gathered to watch the top 10 teen finalists at the DC-CAP showcase their artistic abilities under the bright lights of The Kennedy Center. With more than 1,000 watching in the audience, high school students performed a range of talents, from belting out “I Will Survive,” to busting moves to hits by Michael Jackson. THE PEOPLE The panel of celebrity judges, including Dionne Warwick, Rickey Minor and Debbie Allen, were on hand to give critiques, while J. Willard “Bill” Marriott Jr., Rep. Steny Hoyer and Sen. Roy Blunt all received honors for their efforts to support education. Channel 7 news anchor Leon Harris emceed the event, which was dedicated to the memory of philanthropist Joseph E. Robert Jr. who founded Fight for Children. BEST IN SHOW Winner Niya Norwood took home the $20,000 scholarship grand prize, after Warwick exclaimed, “You are fabulous!” Photography by Hyon Smith
